Edna Mae "Eddy" Love

Seneca, KS

Edna “Eddy” Mae Love, 80, of Seneca, died, Friday, November 22, 2013, at Crestview Manor Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca.

She was born east of St. Benedict, Kansas on February 5, 1933, the youngest child of Bernard J. and Pauline Runnebaum Osterhaus. Eddy graduated from 8th grade at Rock School, and then attended St. Mary’s High School in St. Benedict and graduated in 1951. She began working at the Gilford Hotel in 1952, where she worked until 1955.

On June 8, 1955, she married Harold “Joe” Love at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. The couple made their home in Seneca where they raised four children and celebrated 54 years of marriage: before Joe’s death on October 20, 2009.

Eddy helped her husband with his construction business, Love and Osterhaus Builders, by hanging wallpaper and getting the houses ready for its new owners. After her youngest started school, she worked a few years for the Northside & Vicker Gas Restaurant Station and Linda Motel in Seneca; before taking a job with the Seneca Free Library. She worked at the Seneca Free Library for 36 years, retiring in 2009.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary all in Seneca. Her greatest love was her family and grandchildren. She loved doing ceramics and wood crafts. She was a devoted Catholic, praying the Rosary many times a day.

Besides her husband, Eddy was preceded in death by her father, Bernard on March 4, 1983; her mother, Pauline on September 6, 1975; a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Love on November 28, 1986; a great-granddaughter, Hanna Elizabeth Love on December 28, 2003; two sisters, Bernice Rettele on May 26, 2007 and Lucille Winkler on June 14, 2013; and two brothers, Leonard Osterhaus on April 16, 1958, and Gilbert Osterhaus on February 21, 2012.

She is survived by sons, William (Sara) Love and Gary (Eileen) Love both of Seneca; daughters, Jill (Mark) Boyce of Valley Falls and Janet (Michael) Bradley of Leawood; a sister, Edith Kongs of Manhattan; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed on Sunday, November 24th at 2 & 7 PM at Lauer Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Monday, November 25th at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, followed by burial in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Seneca.

Memorial Contributions may be left in Eddy’s memory to the Sts. Peter and Paul School.
