Cyril D. Tangeman

Cyril D. Tangeman, 80, of Sabetha formerly of St. Benedict, died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Cyril was born on July 27, 1936 to Frank Agnes Wessel Tangeman, on a farm north of St. Benedict, Kansas. Cyril attended and graduated from St. Mary’s School in St. Benedict, Kansas.

As a young man, Cyril helped on the family farm, until he was old enough to join the Kansas National Guard. While serving his country he continued to farm the family farm, with his brothers, Emmett, Francis and Leroy. He enjoyed farming with his brothers and later on helping several of his nephews get started as well, in the family tradition of farming. Cyril farmed until he physically could no longer, his health declined and in 2015 he went to live at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Cyril was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St Benedict, St. Joseph Society and the Seneca Knights of Columbus Council 1769 volunteering on the dance and bingo committees. He served on St. Mary’s Parish Council, on the financial committee.

Cyril loved bowling at the Knights with friends and family, spending time together with family playing cards, fishing, hunting and keeping his many nieces/nephews on their toes; but, his greatest love was farming and raising cattle. His nieces and nephews meant the world to him; and he was like a grandfather to each of them.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents, Frank on May 11, 1988 and Agnes on November 7, 1974; two brothers, Cletus Tangeman on January 10, 1977 and Francis Tangeman on October 27, 1987; and a sister, Alice Wehner on January 16, 2015. In-laws Pat McMahon on October 18, 1986 and Ed Wehner on October 2, 2013.

Cyril is survived by two brothers and three sisters, Emmett (Mary Jo) Tangeman of Falls City, Nebraska, Esther McMahon of Beattie, Rita (Charles) Broxterman of Frankfort, Leroy (Sharon) Tangeman of Seneca and Eileen (Don) Lake of Topeka; 10 nieces, 24 nephews, 26 great nieces and 35 great nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10 AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed on Sunday at 2 & 7 PM at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be left in Cyril’s memory to St Mary’s Catholic Church.
