Victor H. Tangeman

Corning, KS

Victor H. Tangeman, 82, of Corning, KS, died on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Eastridge Care Facility in Centralia.

He was born on the family farm south of Seneca, on June 17, 1928 to Julius and Bertha Wichman Tangeman. He attended Sherman Country School and graduated in 1946 from Sts. Peter & Paul High School.

After graduation, he continued to help on the family farm, and with the family’s other business venture, J’s Place, a restaurant/bar and gas station located just north of the Nemaha County Lake. When not busy helping with the family businesses he worked as a hired-hand for neighboring farmers. Victor joined the U.S. Army on January 14, 1951 and served his country until 1957.

On New Year’s Eve of 1954, he met his future wife, Marcelline “Susie” Hutfles; they were married on August 24, 1955, at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly. The couple raised their family on a farm north of Corning, on US Highway 63; where he lived and farmed until his death. The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage before Susie’s death on January 26, 2008.

Victor was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish of Corning, and was a past member of the church council. He was also a member the Knights of Columbus Council #1769 in Seneca for 64 years, and the Arthur L. Mills Post #37 of the American Legion in Corning. Victor drove a school bus for the Centralia School District for many years. He enjoyed putting in a vegetable garden each year, and sharing the fruits of his labor.

Survivors include his children, William Tangeman of Houston, TX, Coleen (and husband Dennis) Smith of Topeka, KS, Stephan (and wife Armella) Tangeman of Olathe, KS, John (and wife Joni) Tangeman of Sabetha, and Marc Tangeman of Gladstone, MO; siblings, Ed Tangeman of Seneca, Arthur Tangeman of Seneca, and Anna Marie Engel of Long Island, NY; and five grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Joseph Tangeman, and a granddaughter Emily Tangeman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Monday, January 24, at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Sunday, January 23, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials can be given in Victor’s memory for St. Patrick’s Church, and sent in care of the family.
