Sandra M. Farley

Sandra Marie Tate Farley, 68, of Hiawatha died Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born in Seneca, Kansas, on June 4, 1946, to Marvin L. Sr. and Orpha M. Hidy Tate. She graduated from Seneca Public School in 1964.

Sandy married Harold W. Brown Sr., who was in the United States Air Force. After they were married, they moved to Madrid, Spain, where he was stationed. When he was discharged, they moved to Sabetha and then later to Topeka. They later divorced. Sandy worked for Flair Fold Manufacturing in Hiawatha. She met and married Charles Farley in 1982. They later divorced and he passed away in 2012.

Sandy was an active member of the First Baptist Family Life Center where she volunteered for the community dinners. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, knitting, and crocheting afghans for the grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Sr. on February 15, 1989 and Orpha on January 8, 1989; and her sister, Linda Wessel on December 20, 1984.

She is survived by her two sons, Harold W. Brown Jr. and his wife Machelle of Whiting, Kansas, and Brian L. Brown of Tucson, Arizona; her daughter, Sheila A. Mendez of Hiawatha, Kansas; her brother, Marvin L. Tate Jr. and his wife Diane of Axtell, Kansas; her brother-in-law, Leo Wessel and his wife Nancy of Goff, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashley Brown, Angel and Lorenzo Mendez, Brian House Jr., Cody Maloney, and Alysa Frakes; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaylee, and Jase.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Family Life Center in Hiawatha. A visitation will be at 10:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Seneca City Cemetery.
