Regina C. "Jean" Niehues

Corning, KS

Regina Cecelia “Jean” Niehues, 88, of Corning, KS, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, with her family at her side, at her home southwest of Kelly.

Jean was born on January 25, 1923 to Henry and Mary Catherine Detten Neusch in Amarillo, TX. She attended Janes and Materson country schools and St. Francis Parochial School.

On May 8, 1951, she married Herbert F. Niehues in St. Francis,TX. They farmed for many years north of Corning and enjoyed 49 years of marriage before Herbert’s death on June 26, 2000.

She was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Kelly.

Survivors are five sons, Frank (Janell) Niehues, Leo Niehues, and Roy (Lynn) Niehues, all of Corning, Galen (Brenda) Niehues and Gary (Brenda) Niehues, both of Seneca; two daughters, Catherine (Danney) Williams of Topeka and Theresa (Eldon) Sudbeck of Seneca; two brothers, Francis Neusch of Panhandle, TX and Cyril Neusch of Amarillo, TX; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Carson John Niehues; and sisters, Angela Neusch, Rose Walden and Anne Steinlage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Tuesday, January 3, at St. Bede’s Church at Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday, January 2, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorial contributions may be given in Jean’s memory for Nemaha County Home Health, St. Bede’s Church in Kelly, or Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca.
