Quintin A. "Rupp" Ronnebaum

Seneca, KS

Quintin A. “Rupp” Ronnebaum, 84, of Seneca, KS, died Sunday evening, June 22, 2008 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

He was born November 1, 1923, on the August Ronnebaum homestead north of Seneca, the son of August A. and Anna M. Wichman Ronnebaum. He grew up north of Seneca and graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in 1941.

After high school he moved to Oakland, CA, and worked at the Kaiser Shipyards as a welder making Liberty ships. On January 18, 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served in the South Pacific, New Guinea, Dutch East Indies, and the Philippines as an engineer in the 743rd Engineer Heavy Shop Company. On January 18, 1946, he was discharged with the rank of Tech Sgt. and returned to Seneca.

On September 10, 1947, he married Genevieve E. “Jenny” Skoch at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1997.

Rupp and Jenny farmed northeast of Seneca from 1947 to 1955. In April of 1955, Rupp bought a truck and hauled new automobiles from the Ford Plant in Kansas City to dealerships in the Midwest and western states. In May of 1967, he and a good friend, Melvin Lackey, started Seneca Ready Mix, which they built from scratch into a large and highly successful supplier of cement for the whole area. They expanded the business in 1968 by starting Seneca Fertilizer and in 1985 they started Seneca Transportation. They sold their business on May 2, 1994.

He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, the St. Joseph Society, the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the VFW, the Seneca Chamber of Commerce, the Seneca Golf Club and the Seneca Rotary Club, both of which he was a past president. Rupp always enjoyed traveling and trucking which he continued until 2003.

Survivors are a son, Russell Ronnebaum (Bernice) of Wichita; three daughters, Vicki Ronnebaum (Mark) of Overland Park, Janet Kohake (Joe) of Visalia, CA, Kris Enneking (Damian) of Rossville; a brother, Werner Ronnebaum of Seneca; two sisters, Bernice Buessing of Merced, CA and Gladys Eaton of Oakland, CA; eight grandchildren, Kim Cott, Jeff Huerter, Ryan, Brandy and Alex Enneking, Nichole Kohake, Trey and Blake Ronnebaum; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jenny on September 7, 2006, and by a daughter, Barbara Huerter, on September 30, 2003.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Friday, June 27, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Thursday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given in Rupp’s memory for the Sts. Peter & Paul Building Fund, and sent in care of the family.
