Norman L. Stephens

Norman Lee Stephens, 76, of Americus, KS died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

Norman was born on February 8, 1935 to Claude and Thelma Webb Stephens of Sedan, KS. He graduated from Sedan High School in 1953, and then attended Kansas State University where he met his future bride.

On August 14, 1955 he married Mary Lee Sourk at the Goff Methodist Church in Goff, KS.

Norman worked as an engineer for Boeing and Cessna in Wichita, Lyons Manufacturing in Lyons, and Modine Manufacturing in Emporia.

He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his family at their lake cabin in Council Grove. He served on the Americus City Council and was Mayor of Americus. He was a member of the Americus United Methodist Church and the Americus Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lee of Americus; sons, David (Carol) Stephens of Springdale, AR, Brian (Ruth) Stephens of Newton, KS and Donald (Pam) Stephens of Onaga, KS; his mother-in-law, Mary Sourk of Goff; his brother, Harvey Stephens of Galena, MO; his sister, Phyllis Hernandez of Wichita; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and seven step-great-grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Douglas.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, April 12, at the United Methodist Church in Americus. Graveside service will be 11 AM Wednesday, April 13, in the Fairview Cemetery in Goff.

Memorials may be given in Norman’s memory for the Americus Masonic Lodge or the Americus United Methodist Church, and sent in care of the family.
