Norbert H. Heiman

Seneca, KS

Norbert H. Heiman, 86, of Seneca, KS, died late Thursday afternoon, August 5, 2010 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

He was born January 3, 1924 on a farm north of St. Benedict, KS to Barney and Anna Mueting Heiman. He attended Haug Country School, St. Benedict Grade School and graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca. Norbert continued to help on the family farm until being drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1945. He served with the 414th Infantry Division and was honorably discharged October of 1946. He then returned to Nemaha County and began working for the Seneca Alfalfa Mill, as well as helping at the family farm.

On December 29, 1948 he married Theresa M. Broxterman at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. The couple bought a farm south of Seneca, where he worked until his passing. Simply, Norbert was a farmer, dairyman and stockman his entire life, who took great pleasure and pride in the livestock he raised and the crops he grew.

He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Society, the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Earl W. Taylor Post #21 and the Knights of Columbus Council 1769, all in Seneca. In addition he was active with the Nemaha County 4-H program and served as a 4-H leader for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa of the home; their sons, Pat and Robert Heiman, both of Seneca; their daughter, Jean Heiman of Topeka; his sister, Mildred Broxterman of Axtell; and two grandchildren, Shane Heiman of Emporia and Chandra Banks of Hagerstown, MD.

He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Brenda in 1950 and Mary Katherine in 1963.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Monday, August 9, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 &7 PM Sunday, August 8, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given in Norbert’s memory for Sts. Peter & Paul Nature Park.
