Marlys J. Boeding

Seneca, Kansas

Marlys J. Boeding, 80, of Seneca, Kansas, formerly of Corning, died Tuesday morning, June 28, 2005, at Life Care Center in Seneca, where she had been a resident the past three months.

She was born March 15, 1925, on a farm southwest of Centralia, the daughter of James and Hulda Erickson Stansell. She grew up there and graduated from Centralia High School in 1943. In 1944 she went to work for the federal government as a clerk in the Kansas City Records Center until 1953.

On February 4, 1947, she married Lambert H. Boeding at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived in Kansas City until 1953 when they moved to Denver, Colorado. She and her husband Lambert both worked for Jen-sale Laboratories. Marlys was a billing clerk until 1956 when they adopted their son, Michael.

In 1959 they family moved to Montrose, Colorado where they built and operated a bowling alley. In February of 1960 they adopted their daughter, Jody Sue. They moved to Seneca in September of 1962. Marlys and Lambert bought the Clement Insurance Agency and renamed it the Boeding Insurance Agency. They moved to a farm north of Corning in January 1963. Marlys began work for the State of Kansas SRS Office in Seneca in 1978. She was a homemakers services supervisor for Nemaha, Marshall, and Pottawatomie counties until her retirement in 1996.

Marlys and Lambert celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in February of 1997.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Corning and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. She was also a member of Post #37 of the American Legion Auxiliary, the PTO where she served as an officer for several years, the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Pitch & Bridge Club, and played bridge with her husband in a couples club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and playing cards with her friends.

Survivors besides her husband Lambert are a daughter, Jody Honeyman of Topeka; two brothers, James Stansell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Richard Stansell of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; a sister, Velma Hulsing of Seneca; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Boeding on April 18, 2001 and a brother, Vincent Stansell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Wednesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for St. Patrick’s Cemetery or the Scleroderma Foundation, and sent in care of the family.
