Louise Hanni

Louise Hanni, 92, of Bern, KS, died Sunday, January 7, 2001, at the Sabetha Hospital. She was transferred there from the Apostolic Christian Care Home where she had been a resident since July of 1999.

She was born September 14, 1908, on a farm west of Woodlawn, KS, the daughter of Alexander and Jane Bessie Jonach Baumgartner. She attended a rural school near her home and helped on the family farm.

On July 27, 1932, she married Albert Hanni at her home, the farm west of Woodlawn. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1988. They lived near St. Joseph, MO until 1933 when they moved to Danville, IN, where they farmed. In 1934 they returned to Kansas and the Nemaha County area to raise crops and livestock on a farm east of Bern. They retired in 1972 lived in Seneca before moving to Bern in 1977.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Bern. She liked gardening, flowers, and needlework. Louise always followed the lives of her family and especially her grandchildren with great interest.

Also preceding her in death were six sisters, Mae Gifford, Sadie Hailey, Lucille Babb, Florence Roden, Crystal Kennedy, and Jane Baumgartner; and four brothers, Floyd, Sylvan, Alfred, and Carl Baumgartner.

Survivors are two sons, Roger Hanni and J.R. Hanni, both of Bern; a daughter, Donna Kussman of St. Joseph, MO; a brother, Alex Baumgartner of Conroe, TX; a sister, Eva Sherwood of El Cajon, CA; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 PM Wednesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Funeral service will be 10 AM Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Bern. Burial will be in the Bern Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given for the United Methodist Church at Bern and sent in care of the family.
