Leroy Henry Heiman

Seneca, Kansas

08/06/1930 - 01/29/2019

Leroy Henry “Roy” Heiman, 88, of Seneca, died on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 at Cambridge Place in Marysville.

Roy was born on August 6, 1930, on the family farm north of St. Benedict, Kansas, to Timothy and Caroline “Lena” Runnebaum Heiman.

Roy attended school at St. Mary’s Grade School in St. Benedict and graduated from the 8th grade. He attended high school for a short time and then went to work on the family farm, helping his father, Tim, with the daily operations of the farm. He also enjoyed taking care of and riding his horses.

On November 29, 1952, Roy married Dorothy Stallbaumer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. The couple celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Roy enjoyed going to cattle sales throughout the area and buying cattle to feed on the farm. He liked to visit with other cattlemen and made a lot of friends at the sales. He farmed, but his real love was raising cattle which he had done all of his life until recently when his eyesight and health started to fail. He fed a lot of his cattle in several feedlots in western Kansas. He enjoyed traveling out to check on his cattle several times a year.

He continued to farm and feed cattle even after he moved into Seneca in 1984, where he and Dorothy built a new home. He had developed a 15 acre tract of land on the edge of Seneca into a housing development, which he was very proud of because all of the lots were sold.

He was the Co-chairman of the Nemaha County chapter of the Kansas Livestock Association for many years. He was a member of AA for 39 years and attended meetings regularly. He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the church’s St. Joseph Society in Seneca. He was a former member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict until moving to Seneca, where he served on the church council.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Tim on March 19, 1986, and Lena on January 2, 1989, two sisters, Martha Holthaus on June 4, 1986, and Eileen Rottinghaus on April 26, 2005.

Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home, a son Tim (Agnes) Heiman of San Ansel Mo, California, three daughters, Shirley (Frank) Viscomi of Cary, North Carolina, Nancy (Tim) Deters of Baileyville and Janell (John) Haug of Baileyville; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be on Friday, February 1, 2019, at 2:00 and 7:00 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in St. Benedict, Kansas.

Memorials are for the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, sent in care of the family.
