Kurt T. Holthaus

Seneca, KS

Kurt Thomas Holthaus, 63, of Seneca, KS died Friday, February 9, 2018 at his home near Seneca.

He was born October 16, 1954 to Henry (Hienie) and Vera Johnson Holthaus in Axtell. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul School thru 8th Grade Graduation. He graduated in 1972 from Nemaha Valley High School. As a young man he ventured to Topeka and was employed by Hallmark. The desire to work with his hands and be outdoors lead him to return to Seneca and start his own business: Holthaus Construction. He was very particular about his craftmanship; he always wanted it done correctly. He was instrumental in the restoration of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in 2012.

On April 5, 1975 he married Debra J. Kohake at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Society. He served on the Nemaha Valley School Board from 1989-1999. He coached baseball in Kelly for several years, His lawn was important to him; he was very particular about its upkeep. He enjoyed going to his children and grandchildren’s events. Kurt found solice and peace in praying the Rosary. Kurt lived life with the philosophy “Work Hard-Play Hard.” He ended each work week having a beer with his friends and co-workers.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deb; a son, Steve Holthaus of Seneca; two daughters, Mandy (Sam) Ficarrotta of Olatha, Kansas and Tish (Greg) Hermesch of Kelly; three grandchildren, Charlie, Ellie and Henry; two brothers, Mike (Judy) Holthaus of Topeka, and Tim (Roxann) Holthaus of Seneca; one sister, Cheryl (Terry) Osterhaus of Lakewood, Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Donna Holthaus of Seneca.

Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Henry on January 25, 1997; his mother, Vera on March 21, 2003; a brother, Randy on February 11, 2013; and two infant brothers, Henry on December 27, 1945 and Joseph on September 16, 1946.

Roseries will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Lauer Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
