Kenneth R. Haverkamp, 85, of Corning, Kansas, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Kenneth Regis Haverkamp, or “Kenny” as he was known, was born on December 25, 1927, on a farm north of Baileyville to Edward B. and Mary Feldkamp Haverkamp. He attended a country school and then Baileyville High through his sophomore year. He helped his father on the family farm until 1951 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he was discharged November 1953.

On November 19, 1953 he married Rosanna M. Lierz at Annunciation Church in Frankfort, Kansas. For the last 60 years, the couple made their home together four miles southeast of Corning. Kenny worked at Farmer’s Union for 20 years, from 1970 to 1990. He enjoyed raising cattle and sheep, woodworking, cars, reading, fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with family.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning, the American Legion Arthur Mills Post #37, the Corning Knights of Columbus and the National Farmers Organization.

Besides his wife Rosanna he is survived by his children, Raphael Haverkamp of Goff, Elaine (Earl) Allison of Topeka, Regis Haverkamp of Netawaka, Teresa (Lee) Brown of Topeka, Francis (Lisa) Haverkamp of Holton, Edwin (Darla) Haverkamp of Holton, Veronica Mapes of Hoyt, Marcia (Steven) Ressequie of Holton and Rosemary Ireland of Topeka; two brothers, Cletus Haverkamp of Corning and Vernus Haverkamp of St. Benedict; a sister, Elda Stallbaumer of Seneca; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Asa Mapes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Saturday, June 15, at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Friday, June 14, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
