Johanna C. Tappehorn

Kelly, Kansas

12/17/1890 - 12/27/1973

Mrs. Johanna Tappehorn, 83, of Kelly, Kansas, died December 27, 1973, at the White Way Nursing Home in Wetmore, Kansas, where she had been a patient for eight years.

She was born December 17, 1890, in Germany. She came to the USA in 1892, with her parents, to Kansas City. On January 17, 1912, she was married to Victor Tappehorn at Blessed Sacrament Church, Kansas City, Kansas.

They lived in Kansas City and also in Greeley, Kansas for three years before moving to Kelly, Kansas in 1917. They operated the Farmers Union Store in Kelly, Kansas. Victor died April 18, 1951. She lived in Kelly until her health necessitated a move to a nursing home.

She was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Sodality at Kelly, Kansas.

Survivors include two sons, Frank of Kelly, Kansas and Joseph “Bud” of Sabetha, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Jacob (Marie) Heinen of Centralia, Kansas and Miss Rose Ida Tappehorn of Kelly, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Osborn of Gardner, Kansas and Miss Christine Schroeder of Kansas City, Kansas; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One sister, Rose Lemmon and one brother, Frank Schroeder preceded her in death.

The rosary was prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home on Friday evening. The funeral Mass was offered at St. Bede’s Catholic Church, Kelly, Kansas, on Saturday morning, December 29, 1973.

Burial was in St. Bede’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Kelly, Kansas. Pallbearers were grandsons, Robert Heinen, James Heinen, William Heinen, Michael Heinen, Steven Tappehorn and Joseph Tappehorn.
