Irene E. Kuhlman

Seneca, KS

Irene E. Kuhlman, 88, of Seneca, KS, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. She had been a patient there since February 25.

She was born January 9, 1914, in Coleridge, NE, the daughter of John G. and Anna M. Frerichs Vock. She grew up and attended school in Coleridge. After her schooling, she worked at the Farmer’s Union Store in Coleridge. Later she worked at the Tate Lechner home, caring for his children after his wife died. She met her husband at that time.

On May 25, 1937, she married Louis A. Kuhlman at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly. They lived and farmed east of Kelly. Irene also worked for Dr. Jerome Hermes, cleaning his office. In 1966 they moved into Seneca. She was employed at the Cedars Motel a number of years cleaning rooms. She also worked for Victor and Catherine Buser at their home for several years helping to care for Victor during his illness.

Her husband Louis died July 7, 1976. She was also preceded in death by a son, Marvin Kuhlman on June 26, 1959.

She was a member of Sts Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and the Quilting Group at the church in Seneca, and a former member of St. Bede’s Church and the Altar Society at the church.

Survivors are two sons, William J. Kuhlman of Seneca and John A. Kuhlman of Topeka; a brother, Duane Vock of Shawnee, KS; two sisters, Erma Puppe and Marlene Anderson, both of Coleridge, NE; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and son, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Anderson and Dorothy Anderson; and a brother, Clarence Vock.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in St. Bede’s Cemetery in Kelly. A rosary will be prayed at 2 PM Monday, with a vigil prayer service at 7 PM Monday, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for St. Bede’s Cemetery or the Seneca EMT Association, and sent in care of the family.
