Genevieve M. “Geneva” Lierz, 91, of Seneca, KS, died early Sunday morning, November 29, 2009 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Geneva was born November 2, 1918, on a farm southeast of Seneca to Joseph H. and Mary Rottinghaus Lierz on the family homestead. When she was three years old, she had polio and never fully recovered her health. The family moved to a farm northwest of Frankfort in 1920. She attended Allison rural school. Later she worked on the family farm and helped care for her aunt and her parents.

In November of 1972, she moved to Corning with her brother Alvin. They lived there until December of 1987 when they moved to Seneca. Her sister Ann was always there for her when she needed a helping hand. She entered Crestview Manor in 2001 after suffering a stroke; her sister Ann visited her weekly at the nursing home.

She was a former member of Annunciation Church in Frankfort and St. Patrick’s Church and the Altar Society in Corning; presently was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and Altar Society in Seneca.

She is survived by her brothers, Henry J. Lierz of Baileyville and Raphael Lierz of Frankfort; and her sisters, Ann Haverkamp and Rosanna Haverkamp, both of Goff.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin and John Lierz; and her sisters, Gertrude Wilmot and Mary Christy.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Tuesday, December 1, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, December 2, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given for the Nemaha County Training Center, and sent in care of the family.
