Frank John Hulsing

Baileyville, Kansas

12/01/1959 - 11/23/2018

Francis “Frank” John Hulsing, 58, of Baileyville, Kansas lost his battle against cancer, on Friday, November 23, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Frank was born on December 1, 1959 at the Seneca Hospital, to Anthony H. and Florence M (Haug) Hulsing. The seventh of eight children, Frank grew up playing sports and loving the outdoors. He attended B& B School; and graduated from High School with the class of 1977.

As a young man, Frank worked for AHRS before going to work for Suther Building, where he was employed for 12 years.

He married Stephanie A. Holthaus on June 22, 1985 at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. The couple had four children and celebrated 33 years of marriage. Frank lived on the family farm north of Baileyville his entire life, where he grew crops, raised hogs from farrow to finish; as well as, cattle. Frank enjoyed staying busy, he freelanced as a gifted carpenter, worked for KDOT and he was also employed by B&B as a janitor.

Frank was civic in nature and served on the B & B School Board for eight years, the Rural Water # 3 Board for eight years and currently was on Marion Township Board as a trustee and the township maintainer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1978. Frank was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville, where he sang with the Folk Choir and volunteered at the Catholic Heart Workcamps for several years.

He enjoyed bowling and playing township basketball into his 40s. Frank was a farmer to his core, he loved the farm; building their home, shop and pole barn. He was a die-hard B & B fan and loved KU Basketball. Frank relished being a grandfather. His favorite saying was “It is what it is.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony on November 6, 2004 and Florence on December 12, 2002; and two sisters, Arlene Gudenkauf on May 27, 1999 and Annette Feldkamp on July 5, 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; their children, Shannon (Travis) Henry of Circleville, Kansas, Brooke (Kyle) Lococo of Americus, Kansas, Jerald Hulsing of Baileyville and Cassidy (Thomas) Eisenbarth of Onaga, Kansas; grandchildren, Emma Lococo, Calvin Henry, Nicholas Lococo and Benjamin Henry; two brothers, Gary Hulsing of Topeka and Donald Hulsing of Axtell; and three sisters, Mary Doris Strathman of Seneca, Judy Stredicke of Puyallup, WA, and Nancy Siess of Topeka.

Oh my gosh! I am so terribly sorry! Frank and I talked a few times the last time at the cancer center not that long ago. It just does not seem fair that he went through all the pain and treatments and then dies so young. His family has had it so tough with his sisters also dying from this dreaded disease. My heart goes out to you all. I have written this too much lately, but remember there would not be the pain of his loss if there had not been the joy through out his life. Hugs to all of you!
