Florence M. Hulsing

Florence M. Hulsing, 80, of Baileyville, KS, died late Thursday, December 12, 2002, at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.

She was born July 23, 1922, on a farm northwest of St. Benedict, KS, the daughter of William C. and Mary P. Haverkamp Haug. She graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School and from St. Benedict High School in 1939. As a young woman, Florence did domestic work and childcare, including for the family of Cyril and Geneva Lauer in Seneca.

On August 28, 1946, she married Anthony “Tony” Hulsing at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. They lived and farmed north of Baileyville. Her husband Tony survives of the home.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, the Altar Sodality, the church council, taught religious education to second graders and was co-ordinator of religious education at Sacred Heart. She also was a member of the Benedictine Oblates.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Gary and Francis, both of Baileyville, and Donald of Axtell, KS; three daughters, Mary Doris Strathman of Seneca, Judy Stredicke of Puyallup, WA, and Nancy Siess of Topeka; three brothers, Lambert Haug of Abilene, KS, Ernest Haug of Seneca, and William Haug, Jr. of Topeka; two sisters, Bernice Nordhus and Patricia Stallbaumer, both of Seneca; two stepbrothers, Raymond Hunninghake of Seneca and Leonard Hunninghake of Baileyville; 37 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Arlene Gudenkauf on May 27, 1991 and Annette Feldkamp on July 5, 2000.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 AM Monday at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 7 PM Saturday and 2 & 7 PM Sunday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for Sacred Heart Church or for the Arlene Gudenkauf Scholarship Fund, and sent in care of the family.
