Elmer Leo Hutfles, 97, of Kelly, Kansas, died Friday morning, November 8, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Seneca.

Elmer was born on January 26, 1916, on a farm southeast of Kelly, Kansas, to John and Veronica Pettera Hutfles. Elmer attended Social Hill Country School #50 which was on the corner of the family farm. In his early years before Elmer married he helped his father on the family farm.

On February 7, 1959, he married Dolores Moser of Bern, Kansas. He was a lifelong member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Elmer was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed working the land and raising his cattle. Elmer lived 95 years of his life on the Hutfles family farm, moving in 2011 to Life Care Center of Seneca.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Seneca; daughter, Eileen (Damian) Gronniger of Denton, Kansas; son, Stanley Hutfles of Seneca; a granddaughter, Jackie (Kenny) Peden of Troy; and a great grandson, Kurt Peden.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Hutfles, Amelia Vondemkamp, Irene Crockett, Edith Birbeck, Ernest Hutfles and John Hutfles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, November 11, 2013, at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. The burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Sunday, November 10th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for St. Bede’s Church or St. Bede’s Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
