Anthony R. "Tony" Bartkoski

Anthony “Tony” Robert Bartkoski, 92, of Seneca, Kansas died on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Anthony was born September 2, 1923 to Frank and Francis Zebert Bartkoski; he was born on a farm southwest of Pierce City, Missouri. Anthony attended Midway Country School and Pierce High School; graduating in 1941.

At the age of 19, Anthony enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and was honorably discharged after WWII in 1945 at Field, Louisville, Kentucky. He was assigned to the 1077th AAF Base Unit as a radio operator. Following his military service; he attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas for one year.

On April 15, 1948 Anthony married Marjorie Ann Schreiber in Kansas City, Kansas. Anthony spent 42 years in the grain merchandizing and farming industry in the communities of Hartman, Colorado, Garden City, Kansas and lastly in Hutchinson, Kansas. He spent his final retirement years in Seneca, Kansas surrounded by much of his family.

Anthony was Mayor of Hartman, Colorado for many years and was a member of the American Legion and Lions Club. Anthony loved to play golf, fish and visit with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; three sisters, Josephine, Ann and Mary; and a granddaughter, Ashley Bartkoski.

Anthony is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie; a son, Robert “Bob” (Sandy) Bartkoski of Seneca; a daughter, Cathy Nagel of San Diego, California; two grandchildren, Dr. Tony (Becky) Bartkoski of Seneca and Carlie Nagel (fiancé Keith) of San Diego, California; four great-grandchildren, Will, Anna, Kate and Ella Bartkoski of Seneca; and two sisters, Leona Baszak of Danville, California and Louise Fritz of Kansas City, Kansas.

Anthony requested that his remains be cremated and his ashes scattered on the land north of Hartman, Colorado that he and Marjorie once owned. There will be no formal service and the family request no flowers.

The family has established a memorial for those who wish to contribute to Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in memory of Anthony Bartkoski in Seneca, Kansas; in care of Lauer Funeral Home 212 S 4th Street, Seneca, Kansas 66538.
