Anthony H. "Tony" Hulsing

Anthony H. “Tony” Hulsing, 84, of Baileyville, KS, died Saturday, November 6, 2004, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He was transferred there from Crestview Manor care home in Seneca where he had been a resident since April 2001.

He was born July 11, 1920, on a farm north of Baileyville, the son of John G. and Mary Barbara Jordon Hulsing. He grew up there, attended Sacred Heart School, and helped on the family farm.

On August 28, 1946, he married Florence M. Haug at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. They lived and farmed north of Baileyville and moved into Baileyville in 1993. His wife Florence preceded him in death on December 12, 2002.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville where he had served on the parish council and the Knights of Columbus #1789 at Seneca for over 50 years. He also served on the Baileyville High School Board, the B & B Board when the two schools consolidated (1965-69), and the Marion Township Board. Tony was a friendly, kind man who enjoyed people. He liked to sing and fishing was a favorite pastime.

Survivors are three sons, Gary and Francis, both of Baileyville, and Donald of Axtell; three daughters, Mary Doris Strathman of Seneca, Judy Stredicke of Puyallup, WA, and Nancy Siess of Topeka; a brother, John P. Hulsing of Baileyville; a sister, Rosemary Schmitz of Seneca; 37 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Arlene Gudenkauf on May 27, 1991 and Annette Feldkamp on July 5, 2000; three brothers, Raphael, Nicholas, and an infant, Francis; two sisters, Helen Koch and Barbara Deters.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 AM Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for the Sacred Heart Church or for the Arlene Gudenkauf Scholarship Fund, and sent in care of the family.
