Anna L. Lohmann

Anna Lorena Lohmann, 97, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Seneca, KS, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Lovelace Downtown Hospital in Albuquerque.

Anna was born on February 2, 1910 in Oneida, KS, the daughter of Carl Frederick and Ruby Edwards Boltz. She grew up in Bern and attended the Bern School.

On August 16, 1931, she married Albert H. Lohmann in Sabetha, KS. They lived in the Seneca area and during that time they built and operated the Log Cabin Cafe and gas station on U.S. Highway 36 on the east edge of Seneca, with her husband’s brother, Ralph. The Log Cabin Cafe continues to this day as a local landmark and institution for coffee and breakfast. In the 1940s Anna moved with her husband to Portland, OR; they later returned to Seneca. In 1948 they moved to Garden City, KS where Anna was hired by the J.C. Penny Company. In 1958, J.C. Penny transferred her to Albuquerque, NM where she retired after 21 years of employment with the company. She spent another 13 years in retail.

Her husband, Albert, preceded her in death on May 12, 1967.

Anna was a member of the Community Church in Garden City, KS. She loved to garden and care for her home.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Gilliard of Seal Beach, CA; a grandson, Charles A Gilliard II; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernon Boltz of Milford, KS; and three sisters, Ruby Lundy of Leavenworth, KS, Mavis Gilmore and Mary Wagner, both of Denton, TX.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Albert Boltz, Clara Poland, Carl Boltz, Robert Boltz, Alice Davis, Lee Moore, Raymond Boltz, and Perry Boltz.

A graveside service will be held at 3 PM Friday, September 21, at the Seneca City Cemetery in Seneca, KS. Arrangements are bing handled by Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
