Alice "Sally" Koehler

Seneca, Kansas

07/12/1928 - 10/23/2018

Alice (Sally) M. Koehler, 90, of Seneca Kansas died Tuesday evening October 23, 2018 at Crestview Manor in Seneca. She was born on July 12,1928, in Seneca, one of 12 children of Christopher and Agnes Waller Sack. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated in 1946. After high school, Alice worked at JC Pennyʼs. She was united in marriage to Jim Koehler on October 1, 1947. They had 14 children and were married for almost 70 years until Jimʼs death on September 26, 2016.

After their wedding, Alice and Jim made their home on the family farm located northeast of Seneca. They moved in 1969 to Basin City, Washington where they owned and operated K-ler Cube Mill. In the fall of 1976, they returned to Seneca to take care of their parents. While in Seneca, Alice worked for many years at the Courier Tribune. She also enjoyed many activities in her life. Upmost was her faith which she lovingly instilled in her children. She was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She belonged to St Annʼs Altar Society, taught CCD for many years, and did weekly adoration. Just as important to her was her family. She could often be seen “coaching” her children from the sidelines during wrestling matches and football games. When school activities weren’t keeping her busy, she could be found cooking homemade meals, caring for her flowers, bowling, playing bingo, doing needlework, sewing, putting puzzles together, playing cards, or sharing a good laugh with her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, an infant daughter, Victoria, her parents, Christopher and Agnes Sack, her brothers, Raymond, Charlie, Leon, and Bob Sack, sisters Kathryn Hedderman, Eleanor Love, Virginia Ketter, Eileen Sheehan, Rita Schulte, and Mildred Lierz and a son-in-law, Richard Dalinghaus.

One thing I will remember about Alice “Sally” is we could ask her how many kids she had and she would tell us how many and then she would name them in order. To be able to do that still at her age is amazing. I loved her smile and when she was being funny with me. We had lots of fun and goofy times together. Such a great woman that I will dearly miss. May she Rest In Peace.

Thank you Sylvia. We appreciate the time you spent with our mother. She had many “angels” to care for her and we will be forever grateful.

Agree with Sylvia, Sally could always tell us her kids in order whenever asked. She did it so fast that I only caught a few names here and there. Lol it seems like a lifetime I’ve cared for Sally and Jim!! So many memories! And her smile was the best! Remember the memories, and may she Rest In Peace! She gets to be with the love of her life again, and gets to hold Victoria finally – that was a long time coming! Hugs! Thoughts and prayers, Kim and Ray Streeter

Thank you Kim and Ray. You both hold a special place in our hearts for all the loving care you gave our mother (and our father when he was alive) these past years. How blessed our parents were to have people like you around…we will never forget your kindness.

Sally was our across-the-street neighbor for years, and we always enjoyed her. A usual sight was to see her out on her knees working on her corner flower garden. I always think of Sally this time of year as we rake leaves. Since we have quite a few trees, it is hard to keep ahead with the raking. She enjoyed giving us a hard time when the wind blew their direction and they ended up with some of our leaves. She had a fun personality and we could always find things we had in common to visit about. As the years went by life got more difficult for Sally, but now she can go onto her heavenly home and be joyful and make heaven even brighter with her wonderful smile!

Thank you Margie. My mom always spoke of you with kindness. You were a wonderful neighbor and friend to her and Dad. I’m sure she is already picking the “corner” out in Heaven for her flower garden!
