Agnes M. Hutfles

Seneca, KS

Agnes Mary Hutfles, 95, of Seneca, KS, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at her home.

Agnes was born June 28, 1912, the daughter of Jacob and Margaret Kongs Huerter, on a farm east of Kelly. She attended St. Bede’s Catholic School in Kelly, graduating from the eighth grade. Previous to marriage, Agnes helped on the family farm.

On January 7, 1931, she married Harry C. Hutfles at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. The young couple made their home and raised their children on a farm northeast of Kelly. In 1966, they retired and moved to Seneca. Agnes worked at Evelyn’s Café in Seneca until the early 1970s. After 66 years of marriage, Harry preceded her in death on January 3, 1998.

Agnes was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Seneca, and a past member of St Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Agnes was a hardworking farm wife and loving mother and grandmother. She also took pleasure in quilting, playing cards and bingo, cooking, growing flowers and collecting antiques.

She is survived by three sons, Vernon and wife Judy Hutfles of Onaga, Orville and wife Shirley Hutfles of Holton, and Jerry and wife Lynda Hutfles of Bella Vista, AK; two daughters; Carolyn and husband Melvin Haverkamp of Seneca, and Betty and husband Jim Grollmes of Perry; three brothers, John Huerter of Anamosa, IA, Adrian Huerter of San Antonio, TX and Elmer Huerter of St. Petersburg, FL; 15 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Joseph, Henrietta, Henry, Lawrence, Vincent, Ambrose, and Raymond.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday, January 14, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be at St. Bede’s Cemetery in Kelly. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Sunday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for St. Bede’s Cemetery or Sts. Peter and Paul Church, and sent in care of the family.
