Steven Anthony Osterhaus, 19, of Seneca, died on Monday night, May 20, 1974, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He had been readmitted and had been a patient in the same hospital many times the past two year.

He was born at Axtell on September 14, 1954, the son of Leonard and Adelgund Rettele Osterhaus. Steve attended Sts. Peter and Paul grade and high school. In May of 1972 he graduated from high school. Despite his illness, he attended Benedictine College at Atchison for two years, and maintained high grades.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul church in Seneca.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather Elmer Winterscheidt of Seneca; six brothers, Alan Osterhaus of Kansas City. Missouri, Leon of Jacksonville, Florida, Terry Osterhaus, Glenn Osterhaus, Kim Osterhaus and Gary Osterhaus all of Seneca; two siters, Mrs. Janelle Sester of Topeka and Beth Osterhaus of Boston, Massachusetts.; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. Osterhaus of Seneca.

He was preceded in death by his father Leonard on April 16, 1958.

The rosary was prayed on Wednesday and Thursday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian burial was offered on Friday at 10:30 A.M. on May 24, 1974 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. The burial was in the church cemetery. The family suggestion was that the memorial remembrances might be made out to further the fight against Leukemia.
