Mary B. Haverkamp

Seneca, Kansas

Mary Bertha (Koezler) Haverkamp died on December 29, 2023, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Mary, and her twin sister, Margaret, were born on a farm west of Corning, Kansas, on January 10, 1944, to Lawrence and Anna (Weber) Koelzer. Mary grew up in the Corning community and graduated 8th grade from St. Patrick’s School on May 24, 1959, and graduated high school from Corning Rural High School on May 23, 1963. Mary helped people in their homes before she got married. On April 15, 1967, Mary married Kenneth A. Haverkamp at St. Patrick’s Church, Corning, Kansas. They lived 1 mile west of Seneca and 2-1/4 miles north on the St. Benedict Road before moving to Seneca. Mary helped on the farm. Mary worked as a cook for the Knights of Columbus, Bob’s Sirloin Room, Valentino’s, and Nemaha Valley Community Hospital before retiring in 2014. Mary also worked at Harsh Drug Store for a short time. Mary was a former member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict, and was a current member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Seneca. Mary enjoyed her family, playing cards, and bingo.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on May 18, 2006; her parents, Lawrence on July 26, 1958, and Anna on May 11, 1983; sisters, Margaret on January 11, 1944; Dorothy on December 15, 1948; Clara Niehues on February 21, 1993; Rita Eisenbarth on November 23, 2016; Lorene Olberding on May 19, 2018; and brothers, George on January 14, 1930; Andrew on May 29, 1942; Melvin on January 1, 2001; and Sylvester on June 15, 2012.

Kenneth and Mary had three daughters who survive: Theresa (Tom) Deters, Seneca; Mary Koerperich, Marysville; and Deloris (Jeff) Deters, Seneca. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: Megan (Daniel) Palmer, Norah, Sutton, and Quentin; Courtney Summers, Kendra, Gavyn, and Rayghan; Amber (Kaleb) Swart, Rylee, Madilynn, and Peyton; Kelsey Heinen and Oliver; and Kaleb Koerperich and his fiancé, Brooke Stinson; and 3 step grandsons and 3 step granddaughters: Tyler (Michelle) Deters, Deborah, Adeline, and Clara; Dustin Deters; and Devin (Alyssa) Deters. Ann Broxterman is Mary’s only surviving sibling.

A rosary will be prayed at 2 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Sunday, December 31, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 1, 2024, at 11:30 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca with burial to follow at the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions will be determined at a later date by the family

A rosary will be prayed at 2 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Sunday, December 31, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 1, 2024, at 11:30 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca with burial to follow at the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.
