Mark P. Feldkamp

Seneca, Kansas

03/20/1942 - 06/15/2021

Mark Paul Feldkamp, 79, of Seneca lost his battle against pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.

Mark was born on March 20, 1942, on a farm south of Seneca, to Benedict and Katherine Kuhling Feldkamp. Mark graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic High School in 1960. At a young age, he learned the value of farming, preserving the land, and working hard. He served in the United States National Guard beginning in 1960. Upon honorable discharge from the National Guard, Mark was hired by Nemaha County Road & Bridge. He enjoyed the work, but Mark found his true calling once he joined Regis Tanking’s dozing business.

Mark married Rita Deters on October 12, 1964, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The couple celebrated 56 ½ wonderful years of marriage together.

In 1972, Mark had the opportunity to buy out Regis Tanking’s dozing business upon Regis’ retirement. Mark started Feldkamp Construction with just a few basic pieces of equipment. Soil conservation was his passion. He took great pride in the work he completed. The equipment changed over the years, as did the conservation techniques. But Mark always said one thing stayed the same: His farming customers were the most honest and trustworthy people he ever found. Due to health issues, Mark stepped off a dozer for the last time in July 2020.

When he wasn’t working, which wasn’t often, Mark enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with his grandchildren, reading, and playing cards. Mark was also a volunteer fireman for the city of Seneca for many years. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the St. Joseph’s Society, the Knights of Columbus Council 1769, the church choir and the Knight’s choir, and the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery Board. Mark and Rita were original investors in Community National Bank. Mark served on the board of directors from 1987 to 2018. He truly enjoyed his association with the bank, developing a sharper business sense and, most importantly, forming life-long friendships.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Barrett Scragg.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Rita; his daughters, Julie (David) Davis of Lansing and Lori (Justin) Lueger of Seneca; siblings, Lyle Feldkamp of Seneca, Arlene Little of Centralia, Regis Feldkamp of Seneca, Daniel Feldkamp of Bern, Robert Feldkamp of Seneca, and Donald Feldkamp of Seneca; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed at Lauer Funeral Home on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 2 & 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 19, at 1:30 PM at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials will be designated by the family at a later date.

    Dearest Rita and family,

My heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved Husband and Father, Mark. I was first introduced to Mark thru my Father on a special remembrance project for my deceased brother Mark in 1990. Feldkamp Construction understood the importance of the project to the William A. Rettele family. After having Feldkamp Construction improve the surrounding grounds with additional pond work, I always told Mark it was his Masterpiece. I will miss him dearly and my family will always remember his support after the loss of my brother Mark.

We were so sorry to hear that Mark passed away. Growing up as kids, he was a neighbor, thru the years, seeing him from time to time, he always had a moment to say hi & chat. Our deepest sympathies to the families.

Rita and family. Both Donna and I are sorry to see the passing of Mark. Brings back many old memories of summer softball as well as high school activies when we would see you and the family. Mark and the family have always one of those sets of people we always felt blessed to know. Our deepest sympathies to you and all of the family.
