Linus H. Ronnebaum

Seneca, Kansas

08/20/1933 - 09/13/2023

Linus H. Ronnebaum, age 90, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 13, 2023 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, KS.

Linus was born to Joseph C. and Emma V. (Rottinghaus) Ronnebaum on August 20, 1933 and grew up southwest of Seneca.  He attended the Pickney Country School in his early years, just one-fourth of a mile east from his home.  Later, he went to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School and graduated from high school in 1950.  After graduation he continued to help his parents on the family farm before entering the United States Army in 1955.  He served stateside in the motor pool division in a number of installations.  While the Army did their best to promote and retain Linus, he chose to go back home and farm.  He was honorably discharged on February 8, 1957 from Fort Hood, TX.

Following his service to his country, he returned to the family farm and later worked his own land.  He also planted and harvested crops annually and loved taking crop tours in his later years.  He took great pride in his work.  He was a very hard worker, which made him a great farmer.  Linus raised both hogs and cattle, but cattle were always his favorite.

Linus married Marilyn Mohlman on November 30, 1963 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.  The couple was blessed with three children, Kathy, Patricia and Joseph.  Linus and Marilyn would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in just a few months.

Linus was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, a member of the St. Joseph Society and the Seneca Knights of Columbus Council 1769.

Linus enjoyed the simpler things in life, which included raising cattle, going to cattle sales and the stock yards.  He enjoyed farming and taking care of his land.  He loved grilling steaks on Sundays, an occasional adult beverage and following his children’s sports activities.  Visits from his children and grandchildren always brought him the greatest joy.

Linus is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his two daughters, Kathy (Scott) Pick, of Sarasota, FL, and Patty (Russ) Johnson of Bucyrus, KS, and a son, Joe (Kristal) Ronnebaum of Leawood, KS.  He was the proud grandparent to four granddaughters, Lexie, Lily, Haley and Jordyn, and two grandsons, Nick and Connor.

Linus is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Dwerlkotte of Wichita, KS and Marie Dwerlkotte of Beattie, KS, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Linus was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph C. on February 14, 1985 and Emma V. on July 25, 1962, a brother, Leonard, on July 25, 2017, a brother, Melvin A., on August 12, 1998, and a sister, Eleanor Kohake, on September 28, 2008.
