Keith L. Kramer

Sabetha, Kansas

11/22/1945 - 05/15/2026

Keith L. Kramer, 80, of Sabetha, passed away at his home south of Oneida on May 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Known affectionately as the “Pumpkin Man,” Keith touched the lives of many in his community by raising and giving away hundreds of pumpkins to local schools.

Born on November 22, 1945, in Salina, Keith was the eldest son of John J. and Madeline Luck Kramer. He received his education in Sabetha, Oneida, and Seneca Public Schools, graduating in 1963. At the young age of 17, he joined the Kansas National Guard, serving four years before transitioning to the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of E-6 while deployed to Vietnam.

Upon his return to the United States in 1970, Keith began farming alongside his father, starting a partnership that lasted until 1983. He expanded his operations to include dairy farming until 1998, subsequently focusing on cattle and row crops until his retirement in 2017. Keith found love on July 4, 1970, meeting Elaine Steinlage at a wedding dance. They were married on August 21, 1971, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning.

Deeply passionate about his work, Keith cherished every aspect of farming, from planting to harvest. His service in Vietnam exposed him to Agent Orange, resulting in various health challenges throughout his life. Despite these struggles, Keith found joy in many pursuits: hunting, growing pumpkins, and especially fishing, which he regarded as one of his greatest hobbies.

Keith was preceded in death by his daughter Anna, who passed on January 21, 1977, his son Kevin on October 11, 1974, his parents, and his brother Daniel. He is survived by his beloved wife Elaine of 54 years, two sons, Charles (Michelle) Kramer of Falls City, Nebraska, and Chris Kramer of Sabetha, a brother Terry, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Keith’s wishes, a graveside service with military honors was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery on May 16, 2026, where he was laid to rest by his children. The final blessings were given by Fr. Joel Haug. Full military honors were provided by the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Earl W. Taylor Post #21.

Memorial contributions will be designated at a later date and sent in care of the family.

Keith will be remembered for his generous spirit, devotion to farming, and love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Sorry to read of Keith’s death. He and I were in the class at Oneida and Seneca. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body.

I have known Keith for several years and we shared a love for fishing. I only became aware of his cancer battle recently. Keith was a tough guy and he gave cancer a run for the money. He will be missed,

Elaine and family, we were very sorry to hear about Keith’s passing. John really enjoyed all of his fishing talks with Keith. He is really going to miss not seeing Keith and will miss not having the chats they had. Thoughts and prayers for your family. 🙏🏻

I knew Keith when I ran around with his brothers. He was the quite Kramer boy, but always really friendly.

    Elaine and Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I read of Keith’s passing. Keith and I were both born in the same year and at family gather-ings, we would pair up for so many special memories. He was the most fun and kind person I knew growing up. Elaine, in my last visit with Keith, he said you were the most special gift that ever happened to him. You are in our love and prayers.
