Arlene H. Gress Haverkamp

Seneca, Kansas

Arlene Helen Haverkamp, 86, of Seneca, KS died March 16, 2024, at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.

Arlene was born April 15, 1937, in Seneca, KS to Aloysius ‘Allie’ and Lorene (Tanking) Gress.

Arlene attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and graduated in 1955.  After graduation, she worked at the Seneca Hospital until her marriage to Lillis Haverkamp on January 21, 1958, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Seneca.  The couple lived and farmed on a farm northwest of Seneca until 2008 when they moved into Seneca.  The couple enjoyed celebrating their 50th anniversary and 54 years of marriage together.

Arlene enjoyed playing cards, going to bingo, embroidery work, and quilting.  She made beautiful quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Quilting Club and valued the friendships she made with this club.  She loved family gatherings and was a big contributor by hosting and cooking.  Her homemade pies, cinnamon rolls, and ice cream were always a big hit.  She was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and great grandmother. As a loving daughter, sister, and aunt she was beloved by many relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

Arlene was known for her caring spirit.  She cared about instilling a sense of responsibility, frugality, and hard work in her children.  She cared deeply about her faith and her spiritual community as a member of St. Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and a former member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict where she was an altar society officer.  She cared about her community serving as an election inspector and helping to coordinate funeral dinners. Arlene was a rosary leader for funerals.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lillis, on March 2, 2012, her parents, Aloysius and Lorene, brothers, Emmett, Leonard, Charles, and Norbert, and sisters, Dorothy Dick and Eleanor Heideman.

Survivors include her three sons- Dennis, Briarcliff Manor, NY, Tom (Mary), Seneca, Paul (Laura), McLouth, Kansas and two daughters-Janet Heideman (Dennis), Baileyville, and Bonnie Meeks (Jay Suther) of Seneca and nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday, March 18, 2024, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

Memorials may be given to Sts. Peter and Paul School and or Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Building fund sent in care of the family.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday, March 18, 2024, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

    You have my deepest symphony she was a hard worker and was a lot of help on the election board. Bought a lot of eggs from her over the years.

    Sorry about the passing of Arlene she was a beautiful and caring aunt. She will be missed until we meet again. I will keep her in my prayers.
