Lyle Gregory Stallbaumer

Seneca, Kansas

Lyle Gregory Stallbaumer, 83, of Seneca KS, passed away suddenly on July 25, 2023, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, KS.

He was born October 1, 1939, at home, the son of Felix and Lena Ronnebaum Stallbaumer. Lyle grew up north of Seneca and attended school in St. Benedict, KS where he graduated high school in 1957. He did carpenter work, owned a canned milk route, and worked for Seneca Ready Mix for over 20 years.  In his late forties, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a full-time farmer and grew crops and raised cattle southwest of Centralia, KS.

On January 2, 1961, Lyle married Marcena Keegan, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville, KS. Together they had two children: Lyla (Brad) Bowser and Brad (Jennifer) Stallbaumer.

Lyle was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 1769. He served on the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department from 1971-1991, retiring as chief of the department. During his time on the fire department, he was involved in the restoration of the 1922 Stutz fire truck. Also, while he served on the Fire Dept he was on the Dance committee in 1972, Captain of truck #2, 1978 and 1979, 1983, 2nd Asst. Chief, 1980, 1984,1985, was the chief 1986 and 1987. Lyle retired on December 30, 1991, with 20 years 4 months of service to the City of Seneca. He was a volunteer EMT from 1978-1991. He was a volunteer EMT from 1978-1991. In his younger years, Lyle enjoyed golfing, water skiing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and more recently, playing Bridge.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Marcena, on October 22, 2015, his parents, Felix on August 6, 1984, and Lena on July 20, 1973; his sister, Alice Rilinger on November 14, 2000; and his brothers, Roland on September 6, 1999, Robert on August 21, 2018, and LeRoy on August 5, 1987.

He is survived by his children, Lyla (Brad) Bower of Wamego and Brad (Jennifer) Stallbaumer of Topeka; grandchildren: Leigh Ann, Melissa, Reid, Madison, Andrew, Matt, and Anna, and four great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be recited at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2023, at Lauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, KS. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be left in Lyle’s name to the Seneca Fire Department or the Seneca EMTs.

Rosaries will be recited at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2023, at Lauer Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, KS. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
