Glenn Lawrence Hasenkamp

Seneca, Kansas

09/20/1933 - 12/08/2021

Glenn Lawrence Hasenkamp, age 88, of Seneca, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home.

Glenn was born September 20, 1933, at Axtell, Kansas to Edward J. and Magdalene Lierz Hasenkamp.  He grew up and attended grade school in the St. Bridget area.  In his teen years he worked for area farmers in the St. Bridget community.  In 1952 and 1953 he worked for the Cornelius Construction Co. in building the Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville and also the new Baileyville High School.  He operated the mixer for the cement that was used for both projects.  He was employed by Cornelius Construction Co. to do the same work when they built the Summerfield High School.

In January 1955, he volunteered for military service in the Army and after basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado he spent six months at an army station in Chicago, Illinois.  In January 1956, he was sent to the 7th Rappel Division at Camp Casey, South Korea.  He rotated back to the states in December 1956 and was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1957.  He returned to Seneca and went to work at the Nemaha County Coop, first in the service department and then later delivered fuel to the farmers in the county.

On August 19, 1957, he married Shirley Dick at Sacred Heart Church, Baileyville, Kansas.  They lived southwest of Baileyville on the farm for 37 years where they raised their family of two sons and five daughters.  During this time besides farming, he also worked for the Broxterman Oil Company of Baileyville.  In 1966, he was co-owner of the Hasenkamp Oil Co. with his brother, Ernest, at the southwest edge of Baileyville, on Highway 36, until 1972.

He served on the Baileyville Rural Water District #2 Board.  Glenn was a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the Seneca American Legion.  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Society.  He was a former member of the Sacred Heart Church and served on the parish council at Baileyville.

In 1994, he and his wife retired from their farm and moved into Seneca so their two sons could take over the farming enterprise.  Farming was his passion and joy and he continued to go out to the farms for several years after he retired.

In August, Glenn and Shirley celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary and were privileged to celebrate their 50th and 60th anniversaries with their children and their families.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home and his seven children: Denise (Greg) Deters of Centralia, Donna (Alan) Hammes of Seneca, Doris (David J.)
