George Albert Heiman

Olathe, Kansas

George Albert Heiman, 81, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at Olathe Medical Center surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 28, 2021. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone he knew.

George was born on May 8, 1940 in Baileyville, Kansas to Lawrence and Loretta Marie (Wietharn) Heiman. He attended and graduated from Baileyville High School (Class of 1958). After graduation he attended St. Benedict’s in 1962 where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He then attended Kansas State University and earned his master’s degree.

He worked as a teacher and guidance counselor at various schools in Kansas, including schools in Greenleaf, Highland, Ellis County, and Riley County. He spent most of his career working in Olathe as a guidance counselor at Oregon Trail Middle School. He worked at Oregon Trail Middle School from the time the school opened in 1976 until he retired in 2005.

He met the love of his life Mary Elizabeth Larkin, and they were married on July 17, 1976 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville, Kansas. Together they raised their three children Jeffrey, Amy and Kevin. George attended and was a dedicated member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. There he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

George involved himself with many activities. He was a member of the Oak Country Golf Course where he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed fishing, attending his grandchildren’s activities, being outdoors and working in his garden, crosswords and other puzzles, and watching the Kansas City Royals and KU Basketball. For the past few years George and Mary enjoyed going out to dinner and playing in a local bowling league with friends. They also enjoyed taking road trips and their travels together took them to many destinations like: Ireland, Germany, The Mediterranean, The Caribbean, Panama, Alaska, and Hawaii.

George is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Art Heiman and Larry Heiman and his granddaughter Mary Berchem. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Mary Heiman, children: Jeffrey Heiman and his wife Kendall, Amy Berchem and her husband Jesse, and Kevin Heiman and his wife Michelle. Left behind to cherish his memory are his six grandchildren: Greyson Heiman, Landon Berchem, Jillian Heiman, Brynn Berchem, Asher Heiman, and Benjamin Heiman. George is also survived by his brother Jerry Heiman, his sister Jan (Larkin) Kedrowski, and his sister Jolene Haverkamp along with many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed.
