Charlotte A. Meyer Haug
Seneca, Kansas
08/28/1939 - 04/29/2025
Charlotte Ann Haug, 85, of Seneca, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.
Charlotte was born on August 28, 1939, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, the youngest of two daughters of Solomon and Ella Marie (Lockas) Meyer. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Bern, Kansas, and attended Bern School. Her parents also owned and operated the Bern Café until her mother’s passing when Charlotte was just 12 years old.
When Charlotte was a sophomore in high school, she, her father, and her sister Shirley moved to Seneca after her father purchased the Log Cabin. During her high school years, she worked at the Seneca Telephone Company and Krotzinger Bakery, both located on Main Street. She graduated from Seneca Public School in 1957.
After graduation, Charlotte briefly lived in Topeka, working for the State of Kansas in the Income Tax Department before returning to Seneca. On November 19, 1957, she married Omer Carlton “Cotton” Haug at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They built their life and raised their three children in Seneca, enjoying nearly 50 years of marriage until Cotton’s passing in 2007.
Charlotte worked hard throughout her life, both at home and in the community. Over the years, she was employed by Grollmes Insurance Agency, the Prairie Club, and spent 23 years at Heideman Locker. Later, she worked alongside Cotton at H & H Motor Company, the Oldsmobile dealership they owned and operated until production ended in 2002. She also cooked at Country Place Senior Living and washed dishes at Nemaha Central High School.
Charlotte’s greatest joys were simple and heartfelt. She loved gardening, canning, and baking—especially sharing her homemade treats with others. She was devoted to her family and took pride in supporting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her home was also a place of care for extended family, as she helped look after her husband’s uncle and kept a close eye on her husband’s brother in his later years. She also had a special fondness for animals, especially cats, and cared deeply for their well-being.
A lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society, Charlotte lived her faith through her kindness, generosity, and steady presence in the community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cotton (2007); her grandson, Dominic Haug (2008); her sister, Shirley Heideman (2020); and Maggie Haug (2025), wife of her son Jerry.
Charlotte is survived by her children: Ed (Valarie) Haug of Trenton, Missouri; Connie (Mike) Kuckelman; and Jerry Haug, all of Seneca; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be prayed on Saturday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Reginald Saldanha at 11:00 a.m.
