Dora C. Bowhay, 72, of Seneca died Sunday, November 22, 1981, at Country View Estates at Seneca. She had been a resident there since September 1. For five years she bravely fought cancer.
She was born March 26, 1909, at Seneca, Kansas. Her parents were Theodore and Karoline (Wessel) Kuckelman. She grew up on the home farm and graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul High School. For five years she taught at Humphrey, Oak Grove and Old Lincoln rural schools. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Gray for six years. From 1962 until July of 1981, Dora was a well known Avon representative. She received several awards for outstanding sales and continued to sell while battling her disease.
On November 30, 1939, she married Virgil Bowhay at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. They reared nine children and celebrated their twenty-fifth and fortieth anniversaries. They began farming northeast of Axtell and later, north of Soldier. In 1945 they moved to Seneca in 1972 and retired from farming.
Her memberships include Sts. Peter and Paul Church, St Ann’s Altar Society; the L.C.B.A., the VFW Auxiliary No 7458, the W.S. Club, and Golf Bridge-Pitch Club.
Dora was a friendly, enthusiastic person who enjoyed people.
Survivors are her husband, Virgil of Seneca; four sons, Jack of Kansas City, Missouri; Bob of DuBois Nebraska; Jim, of Netawaka, Kansas; Ed of Topeka, Kansas; five daughters, Mrs. Quentin (Virginia) Mitchell of Berryton, Kansas; Mrs. Ken (Mary) Boeckman and Mrs. Albert (Betty) Olberding Jr. both of Seneca, Kansas; Mrs. Jim (Arminda) Feldkamp of Centralia, Kansas and Mrs. Dennis (Margie) Miller of Frankfort, Kansas; three brothers, Frank Kuckelman and Herman Kuckelman, both of Seneca, Kansas and Ted Kuckelman of Frankfort, Kansas; and twenty-seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, four sisters and one brother.
The Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church by Father Albert Hauser.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
