Margaret E. Vondemkamp,
94, of Seneca, Kansas, died Monday, January 1, 2001, at Crestview Manor
Care Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since November 27,
2000.
She was born June 26, 1906, on a farm northwest of Corning, KS, the
daughter of Henry and Agnes Ross Eisenbarth. When she was a young child,
the family moved to a farm east of Corning where she grew up. She attended
Corning schools, graduating from Corning High School in 1924. She attended
Emporia Teacher's College for two summers and attained a teacher's certificate.
She then taught at Pine School east of Corning for a year and at Social
Hill School north of Corning also for a year.
On October 19, 1927, she married Frank Vondemkamp
at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. He preceded her in death on November
21, 1993. They lived and farmed five miles south of Seneca. In
June of 1989 they moved into Seneca. They celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary. For the past two years, Margaret has made her home with
her son Bob and his wife, Mary Beth Vondemkamp.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church
and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church in Seneca. She was a former
member of St. Bede's Church at Kelly. She enjoyed crocheting, working
crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader, frequently checking out books
from the library.
Survivors are her son, Robert of Seneca; a
brother, Lou Eisenbarth of Topeka; a sister, Dorothy "Dode" Henry of
Goff, KS; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30
A.M. Thursday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will
be in the church cemetery. A vigil prayer service will be conducted
at 2 P.M and the rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M Wednesday at the
Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul
Church and sent in care of the family.
