Vernon
Louise Vernon, 88, of Goff,
Kansas, died Saturday evening, August 10, 2002, at the Hiawatha Community
Hospital, Hiawatha, Kansas. She had been a patient there for about two
weeks.
She
was born November 4, 1913, on a farm west of Goff, Kansas, the daughter
of Charles and Maude Wessel Clarkson. She grew up there, attended school
in Goff, and graduated from Wetmore High School in 1931. After earning
a teaching certificate in 1931, she taught in a rural school and then
at elementary schools in Goff and Wetmore for many years. In 1963 she
graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in education.
In 1974 she retired from teaching.
On December 1, 1934, she married
Harold D. Vernon at Washington, Kansas. He preceded her in death on
July 1, 1985.
She was a member of the United Methodist
Church at Goff, the Whiting Chapter #287 of the Order of the Eastern
Star, the GFWC Goff Women's Club, and the Nemaha County Home Demonstration
Unit at Goff.
Survivors are two daughters, Kathryn
Perrin of Ozawkie, Kansas, and Dorothy Legere of Colorado Springs, Colorado;
a brother Floyd Clarkson of Hiawatha; seven grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M.
Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Goff. She will lie in state
at the church for an hour preceding the services. The burial will be
in Fairview Cemetery in Goff. She will lie in state after 10 A.M. Monday
at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
