Toby
Marie Toby, 88, of Seneca,
Kansas, died Friday, February 9, 2001, at Eastridge Care Home in Centralia,
Kansas. She had been a resident there since the fall of 1998.
She was born November 22, 1912, on a farm southwest
of Centralia, the daughter of Henry
and
Tillie Smith Jessee. She graduated from Vermillion High School in Vermillion,
Kansas in 1930, and attended Kansas Agricultural College in Manhattan,
Kansas, for two years.
On November 9, 1940, she married Eugene J.
"Gene" Toby at Leavenworth, Kansas. They lived at Seneca where he was
a well-known auctioneer. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary
in 1990. Her husband died March 2, 1992.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death
by a son Robert "Bob" Toby on June 8, 1996.
She had attended Sts. Peter & Paul Church in
Seneca with her husband and earlier had been a member of the Congregational
Church in Vermillion. She was a member of the Seneca Sunflowers Home
Demonstration Unit in Seneca and assisted her husband when he was the
Nemaha County Democratic Chairman for 16 years. She bowled on a league
in Seneca and enjoyed traveling throughout the US with her husband.
Marie liked sewing, crafts, having flowers around her home, and playing
cards with friends.
Survivors are two sons, Richard Toby of Virginia
Beach, Virginia, and William J. Toby of Seneca; ten grandchildren, and
a great grandson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday
at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The burial will be in Sts. Peter &
Paul Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Sunday
at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given for Eastridge Activity
Fund or Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery and sent in care of the family.
