Betty R. Thieme, 72, of Wetmore, Kansas, died Thursday, August
31, 2000, at a Topeka, Kansas, hospital as the result of a automobile
accident on US 75 south of Holton, Kansas.
She was born November 7, 1927, on a farm, south of Oneida, Kansas,
the daughter of Albert J. and Rose Chilcoat Wende. She grew up there
and attended a rural school. She worked at the Nemaha County Creamery
and at the Blough Restaurant both in Sabetha. In the early 1980's
she was employed at the Dinner Bell Café in Wetmore.
On April 29, 1950, she married Milton
Thieme at Seneca. He survives of the home in Wetmore. They lived
and farmed northwest of Woodland, Kansas. In 1960 they moved to
their present farm 5 miles northwest of Wetmore.
She was a member of Levick-Barrett
Unit #282 of the American Legion Auxiliary at Wetmore where she
was treasurer for 18 years and helped with bingo. She also did volunteer
work at the Wetmore Public Library.
Survivors besides her husband, Milton, are:
a son, Mark Thieme of Wetmore; a daughter, Susan Hirsch of
Netawaka, Kansas; three brothers, Raymond Wende of Seneca, Robert
Wende of Spokane, Washington, Donald Wende of Phoenix, Arizona;
two sisters, Bertha "Peggy" Clemens Ford and Darlene Campbell both
of Sabetha; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael
Thieme on February 24, 1970.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday,
September 2 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The burial will be
in Fairview Cemetery, Goff, Kansas.
Memorials may be given for the American Diabetes
Association or the American Legion Auxiliary and sent in care of
the family.
