Mildred
A. Tanking, 92, Seneca, died Saturday, March 05, 2005, at Life Care
Center in Seneca, where she had been a resident since she and her husband
entered in 2002.
She
was born September 21, 1912, on a farm east of Seneca, the daughter
of William and Zella Simmons Winkler. She attended Triumph School #
16, helped on the family farm, and helped raise her twin sisters.
On April 8, 1931, she married Carl F.
Tanking at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed
east of Seneca and south of Centralia before moving to a farm south
of Baileyville in 1944. They retired and moved to Seneca in 1969. They
celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries, and had been married
over 70 years when Carl died January 26, 2002.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul
Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. She enjoyed
fishing with her husband. She did a lot of embroidery and crocheting,
making keepsakes for her family.
Survivors are a son, Leonard Tanking of
Vermillion; two daughters, Pat Dalinghaus of Seneca and Joan Boyd of
Olathe; a sister, Zita Becker of Hiawatha; three granddaughters, twelve
great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in
death by an infant son, William Carl on January 10, 1936; two granddaughters,
Connie Remby, April 1, 2003 and Jackie Berkley, December 16, 2003; an
infant brother, Raymond; and three sisters Rita McCasey, Bernadine Stegeman
Johnson and Evelyn Haverkamp.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered
Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial
will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 and 7
PM Tuesday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, where she will lie in
state after 8:30 AM on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter &
Paul Cemetery or Sacred Heart Cemetery and sent in care of the family.
