
Harold
D. Schweitzer
Harold D. Schweitzer, 85, Seneca, formerly of Goff, KS, died Saturday,
June 11, 2005, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He
was transferred there from Life Care Center in Seneca where he had been
a resident since July 21, 1998.
He was born April 25, 1920, at Onaga, KS, the son of Louis and Creta
Summerville Schweitzer. Harold attended school in Onaga. The family
moved to Goff in the 1930s where he worked with his father tearing down
buildings and hauling freight. He also worked on area farms as a young
man. Later he worked for several construction companies and moved to
Topeka in 1959. In Topeka he was employed by Smiley Plumbing and later
went to work for the Shawnee County refuse department. In 1982 he retired
and returned to Goff.
In 1944 he married Bertha Mae “Midge”
Dunlapp. They were later divorced. He married Edna Jane Bemis on December
12, 1972. She died December 20, 2004.
He was a member of the United Methodist
Church at Goff.
Survivors are two sons, Bill Schweitzer
of Hoyt, KS and Gerald Lee Schweitzer of Topeka; three grandchildren;
and 5 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death
by a grandson, Mark Schweitzer, January 26, 1999.
Funeral services are planned for 1:30
P.M. Monday, June 20, at the United Methodist Church at Goff. Inurnment
will be in Fairview Cemetery, Goff.
Memorials may be given for the church
or for the Shawnee County Humane Society and sent in care of the family.
