Theodore "Ted" Schultejans
B. Theodore "Ted"
Schultejans, 86, of Corning, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000,
at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born July 24, 1914, on a farm south of Kelly, Kansas, the son
of Bernard and Caroline Klunenberg Schultejans. He grew up there and
attended St. Bede's School at Kelly. He worked on the family farm and
helped his dad in the trucking business.
On April 19, 1944, he married Eleanor Hermesch
at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. She survives of the home. They lived
and farmed north of Corning where Ted was a farmer and a stockman. He
continued to help his sons on the farm.
He was a member of St. Bede's Church, the St.
Joseph Society, and served on the church committee at Kelly. He was
a member of the Farmer's Union for 70 years, a member of the Nemaha
County Co-op Board, and the Seneca Hospital Board. Ted loved to play
cards, enjoyed reading and keeping up on world events. He liked polka
music, and played harmonica and accordian.
Besides his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by two
sons, Jerry Schultejans and Jim Schultejans both of Corning; five daughters,
Mary Jane Schmitz of Baileyville, KS, RoseAnn Hornbaker and Cathy Carter,
both of Topeka, Linda Hyland and Emma Kientz, both of Bixby, OK; a brother
Clarence Schultejans of Kelly, KS; two sisters, Bernadine Wessel of
Seneca, KS, and Anna Hasenkamp of Topeka; 27 grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Bernard in 1944, in World War II, Edwin in 1972, Albert in 1977, and
a sister, Mary in 1931.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 A.M. Saturday
at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. The burial will be in the church cemetery.
The rosary will be prayed at 8 P.M. Thursday and on Friday at 2 and
7 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, KS.
Memorials may be given for St. Bede's Church, the
Corning Fire Department, or the Seneca EMT Association and sent in care
of the family.
