F. Rottinghaus
Nora F. Rottinghaus, 99, of St. Benedict, died late Thursday, January
11, 2007, at a Topeka care home.
She was born July 29, 1907, on a farm west of St. Benedict, KS, the
daughter of Clement and Mary Josephine Olberding. Nora grew up there,
attended Cottonwood School and helped on the family farm. Before her
marriage, she helped other families in the area with their children
and doing domestic work.
She married Tony Rottinghaus on
February 23, 1927 at St Mary’s Church, St. Benedict. They lived
and farmed in the St. Benedict community. Her, husband, Tony, died March
4, 1968.
Nora was a member of St Mary’s Church
and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. She was a homemaker
and a busy mother. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, raised chickens,
had a big garden, and played cards. She was a good friend and neighbor.
Survivors are eight sons, Adrian of Baileyville,
Cletus of Centralia, Lyle, Galen, and Ivan, all of Seneca, Jerry of
Bern, Emmett of Westmoreland, and Eldon of Ozakie; three daughters,
Marie Eagan of Axtell, Edna Urquhart of Silver Lake, and Joyce Anderson
of Chanute; 31 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded
in death by a great grandson, Jared A. Rottinghaus, on June 15, 1993;
two brothers, John and William Olberding; and five sisters, Josephine,
Anna, Elizabeth, and Helen Olberding, and Mary Sudbeck on September
16, 1990.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 AM
Monday at St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict. Burial will be in the
church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM Sunday at the
Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for St. Mary’s
Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
