M. Rempe
Agnes M. Rempe,
90, of Centralia, Kansas, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Eastridge
Care Home in Centralia. She had been a resident there since August 1998.
She
was born February 25, 1911, on a farm east of Kelly, Kansas, the daughter
of Fred and Mary Wessel Hermesch. She grew up there, attended St. Bede's
School at Kelly, and helped on the family farm. She did domestic work
for local families before her marriage.
On February 11, 1931, she married William E. Rempe at St. Bede's Church
at Kelly. They farmed southeast of Corning, Kansas, for nine years and
then moved to a farm north of Corning. In November of 1982 they retired
and moved into Centralia. Her husband, William died July 9, 1995. They
celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries and had been married
64 years at the time of his death.
She was a member of St. Patrick's
Church at Corning, the Altar Society at the church where she served
as president in 1940 and in 1952, and the quilting group the church.
She was also a member of the Groundhog Quilting Club, the Corning Extension
Unit, and a card club in Corning.
Survivors are three sons, Leonard F. Rempe
of Hutchinson, Kansas, John J. Rempe of Corning, Frank W. Rempe of Omaha,
Nebraska; four daughters, Melita Rempe of Seneca, Kansas, Edith Deters,
Dorothy White, and Mary Jane Engelken, all of Centralia; six brothers,
Ben Hermesch, and Fred Hermesch, both of Seneca, Ed Hermesch of Centralia,
Raymond Hermesch of Goff, Kansas, Lambert Hermesch of Meriden, Kansas,
and Lawrence Hermesch of Anamosa, Iowa; three sisters, Sr. M. Amanda
Hermesch, O.S.B. of Colorado Springs, Mary Brucken of Holton, Kansas,
Theresa Winkler of Corning; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren;
seven step great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded
in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Albert, and Frank; three sisters,
Lucy Hermesch, Anna Brokamp, and Rita Buser Perdue.
The mass of Christian burial will be offered
at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 20, at St. Patrick's Church in Corning.
The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed
at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Monday at 7 P.M. and on Tuesday
at 8 P.M. She will lie in state at the funeral home after 4 P.M. Monday
Memorials may be given for St. Patrick's
Cemetery or for Eastridge Care Home and sent in care of the family.
