M. Osterhaus
Anna M. Osterhaus, 97, Seneca, KS, died Friday evening, February 3,
2006, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
She was born October 28, 1908, on a farm east of Baileyville, the daughter
of August and Mary Macke Huninghake. She attended Sacred Heart School
and helped on the family farm. As a young woman, she did domestic work
and helped with newborns in people's homes.
On January 10, 1940, she married Albert
G. Osterhaus at Sacred Heart Church. They lived and farmed east of Seneca
until 1978 when they moved into Seneca. Her husband, Albert, died suddenly
of a heart attack on March 4, 1987. She continued to live in her home
in Seneca until health prevented it. In September of 2003, she entered
Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul
Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and worked for ten years at the
Mission Center at the church. Anna especially enjoyed being with her
family and made them many afghans. She also liked sewing, crocheting,
embroidering, quilting, other handiwork.
Survivors are a son, Gerald B. Osterhaus,
and a daughter, Donna Nordhus, both of Seneca; six grandchildren and
four great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded
in death by seven brothers, Herman, Frank, George, Henry, August, Paul,
and Joseph Huninghake, and a sister, Elizabeth Osterhaus.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10
AM Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will
be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed Monday at 2 and
7 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the Nemaha
Valley Community Hospital and sent in care of the family.
