Mabel E. Olberding

Mable E. Olberding, 84, of Baileyville, Kansas, died early Wednesday morning, October 17, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
     She was born July 10, 1917, the daughter of Albert and Margaret Breuer Weatherford, in Atchison, Kansas. She grew up there and attended school. Following school, she was employed at the Woolworth Store in Atchison.
     On December 27, 1941, she married Elmer "Bud" Olberding in Atchison, Kansas. She worked for the Hershey Candy Co. while they lived in Hershey, Pennsylvania and later in Watertown, New York. While her husband served in the U.S. Army in Europe, she returned to Atchison and worked in a clothing store. When her husband returned from military service, they lived in Atchison for a year before moving to Baileyville in 1946. She was a full-time homemaker in Baileyville and helped to raise her four grandchildren.
     She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Altar Society and the February Circle both at the church and the Benedictine Oblates in Baileyville.
     Survivors are her husband, Elmer "Bud" Olberding of the home in Baileyville; a daughter, Mary Ann Cupp of Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Edmond Weatherford of Houston, TX and Lloyd Weatherford of Atchison, KS; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
     The mass of Christian burial will be 11 A.M. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M. on Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, Kansas.
     Memorials may be given for Sacred Heart Cemetery and sent in care of the family.
