Rosalita “Rosie” Antonia (Rennenger) Niehues

Kelly, Kansas

Rosalita “Rosie” Antonia (Rennenger) Niehues, 96, passed peacefully to eternal life on
Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Crestview Manor in Seneca where she had been a
resident for the past three years. She had been in failing health and her family spent
many hours at her side.

Rosie was born on March 17, 1927, and loved celebrating her St. Patrick’s Day birthday
each year. She was the third of seven children born to Jacob and Wilhelmina
(Rottinghaus) Rennenger at St. Benedict, Kansas. She attended school in St. Benedict
and graduated from St. Mary’s High School there in 1945. After graduation she worked
at the Hanna Poultry and Egg Company in Goff, KS.

Rosie married Edwin “Eddie” Niehues of Goff on February 10, 1947, at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in St. Benedict. They lived and farmed east of Kelly until 2008 when.
they moved to Seneca. Rosie and Eddie celebrated 71 years of marriage before Eddie.
passed away on Oct 1, 2018. This union was blessed with eight children.
Rosie was a hardworking homemaker and farm wife for her family, a great cook and she
baked delicious pies. She had a huge vegetable garden for many years and enjoyed
flowers, with roses being her favorite. She enjoyed hobbies like ceramics, making
quilts, and bowling. She loved playing cards and belonged to many groups over the
years. She and Eddie enjoyed traveling after they retired, going to Hawaii and visiting
other states. She took great joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Memories of games of cards, Scrabble and Boggle, delicious malts and sundaes,
Easter egg hunts and holiday gatherings will be cherished by her children and
grandchildren.

Rosie was known for her spunk, her wit and sense of humor, and was an independent
thinker. Her mind remained sharp, and she retained her ability to manage her own
affairs right up to the end. She kept up with changes in technology and found a social
outlet using her iPad to connect with family and friends on Facebook and through online.
games.

She was a member of St. Bede’s Parish at Kelly and the St. Ann’s Altar Society there,
where she had served as a circle leader and officer.
Rosie was blessed with longevity of life and she was the last of her generation in both
her own family and Eddie’s family. She was also the longest surviving member of her
graduating class.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie, two sons Michael
Niehues on July 9, 2007, and Wilfred Niehues on Oct. 14, 2020, her parents Jacob &
Minnie Rennenger, her brother Wilfred Rennenger, and her sisters Aurelia Heinen, Mary
Niehues, Bernardine Sedlacek, Elizabeth Rennenger, and Alice Sedlacek.

She is survived by two daughters Patty (Larry) Bolgar of Valley City, OH and Cindy
(Dan) Heideman of Wamego, and four sons David (Anita) Niehues of Fort Collins, CO,
Leland (Jane) Niehues of Seneca, Leon (Sharon) Niehues of Huntsville, AR and Dennis
(Laurie) Niehues of Goff, daughter-in-law Carol Niehues of Sabetha, 24 grandchildren,
and 53 great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed on Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM at the Lauer
Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 3 at 10:30 AM
at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Rosie’s memory to the Kelly Heritage Fund or Crestview
Nursing and Residential Living, sent in care of the family.

Rosaries will be prayed on Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 3 at 10:30 AM at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

    Think of all of Rosie’s family -you have our sympathy
    Lee and I enjoyed bowling with Eddie and Rosie on Sunday nights for quite a few years
