Richard A. (Tex) Lohmann

Seneca, Kansas

09/28/1938 - 04/30/2022

Richard “Tex” Lohmann 83, of Seneca passed away at his home April 30, 2022, with his family by his side.

He was born September 28th, 1938 in Seneca Kansas to Ralph & Dorothea Gilson Lohmann.

The family moved to Hamburg Iowa where Tex graduated from 8th grade.  They then returned to Seneca where he attended Seneca Public High School and graduated with the class of 1956.  His classmates gathered quite often over the years and were known as “The Over-the-Hill Gang”.

After graduation, he joined the Navy on July 30, 1956 and attended Class A school as a fire control technician.  He served on the USS Southerland DDR 743. He was honorably discharged in September 1959 at the rank of FTM3 E-4.  After leaving the Navy he worked with his father doing interior and exterior decorating.

He married Carol Heiman on October 27, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict, KS.

Tex sold insurance for Metropolitan Life then became a rural mail carrier in 1968.  He and his wife purchased Freddy’s Pizza Palace in 1970 and ran it for 13 years.   He retired from the postal service in 1997 after which he worked part-time for Big B Thriftway.

Tex served on the Kansas Rural Carrier Association board for many years and was president for two of those years.   He was a board member for NCARC and for NCTC.

Tex enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.  He spent many years in league bowling and attended several national tournaments with his team members.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph & Dorothea Lohmann, son-in-law Jimmy Krotzinger, and sister-in-law Nina Lohmann.

He leaves his wife Carol of 59 years, daughter Cindy (Steve) Olberding, son Jim (Michele) Lohmann both of Seneca, son Rodney Lohmann of Sabetha, and his brother Leonard Lohmann of Lenexa.   He is also survived by his grandsons Andy (Tara) Lohmann and Joey (Katelyn) Lohmann both of Seneca and great-grandchildren Ryder, Cece, Eli, and Lowen.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

Memorials contributions may be made in Tex’s memory to Coins for a Cause or Nemaha County Home Health & Hospice.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

    I am so sorry to hear about Tex today. I worked at Freddy’s for him and Carol and they were the coolest couple. I will cherish my great memories knowing him. Carol and their family are in my thoughts and prayers.

      You have my sincere sympathy on Tex’s passing.
      I so remember him as our rural and on time all the time mailman and passing your home place when going around the lake road. Keep the memories alive by always remembering.
