Mildred A. "Olberding" Meyer

Seneca, Kansas

03/07/1926 - 05/31/2020

Mildred Agnes Olberding Meyer, 94, of Seneca, went to her heavenly home, Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, Kansas.

She was born March 7, 1926, in Seneca, Kansas, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Wessel) Olberding.   She attended school at Diamond Country School near Seneca, KS through 8th grade and graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in 1946.

She married Frank H. Meyer Jr.  on January 21, 1948 at Saints Peter and Paul church.   The couple celebrated 34 years of marriage before his death in 1982.   To this union were born 7 children, Gary (Nancy) Meyer, Roy (Sue) Meyer, Dan (Vicky) Meyer, Terry (Patricia) Meyer, Mark (Brenda) Meyer, Glen and Alan (Joan) Meyer.  In addition to her children, Mildred is survived by her 15 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, and two sisters Edith (Leonard) Wassenburg and Irene (Melvin) Heinen.

Mildred enjoyed life as a homemaker raising seven boys.  After raising her family, she worked for the Knights of Columbus Club room and later for Country View Estates Care Home.   She enjoyed her grandchildren and was active in the early stages of their lives watching and caring for them as needed.  Then attending their activities, ceremonies, and celebrations as they grew up.  Mildred was a member of the Sacred Heart parish and Alter Society in Baileyville, Kansas.  She loved to stay busy with crocheting and gardening.  Mildred was a generous and loving person that always cared for others.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on August 16, 1982, a son Glen on August 26, 2016, her grandson Andrew Meyer on January 8, 2002, and a daughter-in-law Patricia Meyer on January 11, 2011. Her siblings, Robert Olberding and Raymond Olberding.

Due to the critical situation our country is in, please remember the families during this difficult time and consider sending a card of condolence or posting on our website.

 

Mildred will lie in state on Tuesday for public viewing and to sign the book at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca; a rosary will be at 7 P.M. Tuesday evening at the Sacred heart church in Baileyville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville.

If you can’t attend mass it will be livestreamed thru Facebook: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville.

Memorials may be left in Mildred’s memory to be designated later sent in care of the family

    Our deapest sympathy to Mildred’s family. I alwaya enjoyed looking at the flowers she grew in her garden. She inspired me to plant flowers in my garden as well. She was a hardworking lady. We will remember you in our thoughts and prayers.

    So sorry of your mother’s passing. She was a beautiful classy lady. I will always remember the good old days, as my mom served on the Altar Society with her. And also the fun our parents had in their card club. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. She will be missed.

    So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. I would like to have went to the funeral but with the virus I know people are trying to keep the funeral smaller. I loved your Mother. She was such a neat lady and always dressed so nice. Love and prayers, Joann Dawdy
