Luella F, (Haverkamp) Curti

Seneca, Kansas

Luella F. Curti, 91, of Seneca, died January 24, 2020 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Luella was born March 23, 1928,on a farm northwest of St. Benedict, Kansas,  the daughter of John F and Theresa Olberding Haverkamp. Luella grew up in Nemaha County.

Luella worked in the dietary department at Seneca Hospital and the dietary department in Colorado.

Luella married Ed Curti on July 11, 1959 at St. Mary’s church in St. Benedict, Kansas. They met while Ed was stationed in Colorado and Luella was visiting her sister, who was a nurse with the army. After the couple was married, they moved to Rhode Island, as Ed was still in the service. They lived in different parts of the United States during Ed’s service to his country.

To this union a son Edward J Curti Jr. was born in 1960. He was Luella’s whole world.

In 1971, the couple moved to Seneca where Luella enjoyed being close to her family and loved being a homemaker. She was a very devoted wife and mother and supportive of her husband. They were excited when Ed started his own service station in 1982. Ed operated this until shortly before his death in 2018.

Luella is survived by her son Edward of the home, a sister, Henrietta Dressman of Baileyville and a brother, John J Haverkamp of Seneca.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three brothers, John Henry Haverkamp in 1926, Kenneth A. Haverkamp in 2006, and Lillis Haverkamp in 2012, and sisters, Angela Devillier in 2017 and Cecilia Kohake in 2018.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Alter Society.

A Rosary will be prayed at 2 P.M. on Sunday January 26, 2020 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials are for Sts. Peter and Paul School.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. on Monday January 27, 2020, at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

The burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in St. Benedict.
